Communication skills play an integral role in a business profession. Three of the five core communication skills that are very integral in business is writing, listening and oral presentations (Emmerson & Hamilton). The three forms of professional communication skills play a fundamental role in the growth of a business. There are also personal communication skills that are very useful to the growth a business. The three of these skills are the use of nonverbal communication when communicating with others, giving and receiving feedbacks and being open-minded.
Writing is a professional communication skill that plays an important role in the growth of a business. As a financial professional, writing plays an integral role in my business since it helps me in using specific data and examples in written communication to make a solid case and communicate the proposed action items to my workmates or the manager. It helps me focus only on the most important points and it includes a follow-up, which seals any loop in communication and it portrays proactive activities that are goal-bound.
Listening is the ability to receive and incorporate the view of other people in one's communication. Listening is very useful in business since it enables one to acquire facts so that they can make decisions that benefit their business. I would use listening skills in business to build trust by paying attention to verbal instructions and deadlines. I would also use listening skills to maintain the reputation of the business, reduce conflict and motivate employees.
Adoption of effective skills of presentation enables one to present information and ideas to an audience in an effective, engaging and motivating way (Anthony & Garner, 2016). As a businessman, this communication method in business would enable me to share evidence to support an idea or argument. This would influence customers to act towards a desired outcome.
Personal communication skills are also integral in business. The use of non-verbal communication would enable me to clearly relay information to customers and my workmates. They include eye contact, hand gestures, open stance and friendly tone. I would also pay attention to the nonverbal signals of other people while talking to them. These would enable me to detect what they are really feeling.
Giving and receiving feedbacks forms the bane of any business. It is an important communication skill since it gives insight to the owners of businesses that enable them to improve their businesses, products or overall customer experience. I will provide feedbacks in my business to motivate customers, improve performance, and enhance listening in the organization and let the workers know that they are valued.
Open-mindedness is a personal communication skill that plays a huge role in the growth of the business. Employees with flexible, open mind enhance effective conversation with customers in a business. I will adopt open-mindedness in my business to be able to have more honest and productive conversations.
Grammarly and writing center plays an integral role in improving one's grammar. The two software highlight grammatical mistakes in a paper. This enables one to make necessary changes on the paper that makes the paper to be grammatically correct. However, it is imperative to note that some of the recommendations of Grammarly are not correct.
