Interpersonal skills are skills one requires to interact with others in the society. Such skills may include ones communication, conflict resolution, problem-solving, negotiation, and team-working skills. In the exposition, I will review some interpersonal skills evident in a television series. In the series titled Scandal season six episode fourteen, interpersonal skills of the characters are evident between Olivia, Fritz, and Abby. In the movie or series domain, the term interpersonal skills refers to the actors ability to get along with each other while the message is delivered. Good interpersonal skills are a prerequisite for the success of missions featured in a film. However, the presences of conflicting interpersonal skills juice up the entire movie experience as differences existing among actors are revealed. The skills are related to ones knowledge of the social customs and expectations and the ability to adjust to their communication and tactics to suit a particular environment.
The episode begins with Marcus answering questions to the press on issues pertaining to the terrorist drones while Fitz and Olivia are resolving other issues. As per the television show, instances of conflicting interpersonal skills are present as everyone is trying to ask for forgiveness such as when Olivia tries to request Fitz to forgive Abby. Abby nearly turned the country to the terrorists, something that angered Fitz. From Fitzs perspective, it is best if Abby works from home despite her acting capacity as the chief of staff. Olivia asks Fitz why he cannot forgive Abby but he does not answer her. The inability to share with Olivia his reasons by Fitz displays some lack of interpersonal skills as he cannot communicate with Olivia effectively.
Looking at the television show as a business, interpersonal skills are a prerequisite. Success in any business venture can be attributed to employees gaining a pay rise or promotion. Additionally, it can be defined as gaining independence, acclaim, power, or friendship. Success is not always achieved by having highly developed interpersonal skills; however, the lack of the skills defines a total failure. Interpersonal skills heighten the rate of message reception among different parties such as in the television show. If Fitz possessed highly developed interpersonal skills Olivia would have understood his stand on Abbys case. According to Vestal (2007), interpersonal skills are vital to the success of any venture; it is paramount that the receiver understands the senders message. Moreover, interpersonal skills give one the ability to understand what others are trying to put across. Despite the fact that various factors contribute to ones success, interpersonal skills are necessary.
Conclusively, the television show Scandal, reveals some elements of interpersonal skills that exist in the society today. Olivia asks Fitz why he cannot forgive Abby but he does not answer her. The inability to share with Olivia his reasons by Fitz displays some lack of interpersonal skills as he cannot communicate with Olivia effectively. People lacking interpersonal skills have a difficult time expressing their views and ideologies thus harboring the presence of effective communication with others. Moreover, interpersonal skills can determine if one will be a success or a failure in a particular venture. Interpersonal skills are skills one requires to interact with others in the society. Such skills may include ones communication, conflict resolution, problem-solving, negotiation, and team-working skills. Highly developed or good interpersonal skills are a prerequisite for the success of a venture.
