Henri Cartier-Bresson was a famous photographer in the mid-1900. He was the famous photographer of France in 1952. One of his most popular photographs is the Eiffel Tower. It was taken in 1952 in Paris, France (Accueil). The essay focuses on a brief history of the Eiffel Tower and analyses Henri Bressons photograph of the Eiffel Tower.

The photo by Henri Cartier- Bresson shows the significance and characteristics of the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower is a statue that is known worldwide. It represents the culture and the city of love, which is Paris, France. The Tower was built in 1889 (Clemence) and is still currently known as one of the most romantic places. It is a tourist attraction to many and boosts the economy of the country through revenue collected from the visitors ("Things To Do Around The Eiffel Tower"). The Eiffel tower gives the message of elegance and boldness. Therefore, the Tower is a popular monument that is significant to the people of France and the outside world.

Henri Cartier-Bresson did not believe in the flash. He had his photographs printed in full frame, and free of negative space surrounding the photo (Accueil). Currently, he has many art galleries around the globe, and a significant number of his main pieces are in Julien Levys gallery in New York. The photo of the Eiffel Tower photographed by Henri Cartier-Bresson is an illustration the culture of Paris, France. The photographer demonstrates the difference between the light and the dark and represents the significance behind the Eiffel Tower. Bresson is a professional photographer evident by the attributes found in the image such as full frame and proper lighting

Black and white are the dominant colors in Henri Bressons photo of the Eiffel Tower. The image displays a couple walking in the background towards the right side of the picture. Additionally, the thick, steel beams of the tower take up the majority of the background. The proportional differences show the open space between the structure of the Tower and the people walking. The use of the colors black and white denies one the chance to tell the time of the day the image was captured. Various assumptions point that it was a cloudy day because of the shadows in the sky (Figure 1). Henri has the beams centered towards the top left of the middle, and there is a wet look on the floor of the structure. Overall, the photograph shows a different view of the Eiffel tower and gives a character to the still photo. From the photo, one can tell that Bresson loves to leave a literary impression in his works. He combines various elements in the image for discourse purposes.

In art analysis, paying close attention to the lines, values, and structure helps give a better understanding towards the image. Bresson's image shows bold lines of the Eiffel Tower. The use of black and white creates high contrast between the shadows and lights in the photo. From the reflection, the viewer can see the blurred vision of the upper two-thirds of the picture. Henri Cartier-Bresson's photo shows the depth of the city beneath the Eiffel Tower through the negative space. The image not onbly describes the Tower but also provides the viewer with the opportunity to view the vastness of the City.

Henri Cartier- Bressons simple photo of the Eiffel Tower represents a significant number of attributes that cannot be easily viewed with the naked eye. The picture is portrayed in black and white and contains other characteristics of the Eiffel Tower such as the steel beams. The photo shows bold lines of the Eiffel Tower and some of its importance to the economy of France. The black and white definition help create a contrast between the light and dark shadows, forming depth in the photograph. It represents the characteristics of sophistication and style of the French culture. Henri Bresson photo is a classic look at the past, present, and future France by having the couple passing softly in the background. The picture is a perfect example of how Henri Cartier-Bresson can use black and white photography to show many different colors of culture.Works cited
