Criteria for evaluating the film Miss representation.

In the evaluation, the following elements are important. First, there is a need expressing personal criticism on the film. In the film, there are disappointments or that the film was up to the expectations. Second, provide the plot for the story and judge the story. Judging the story involves justifying the actions of the characters, commenting whether the plot of the story makes sense, a criticism of the storyline and the nature of the narratives. The title for the documentary Miss representation depicts the theme of the entire movie. The main point of focus in the film regards the representation of women in the media. The motto that is apparent in the film is that you cant be what you cant see. The implications of the film motto are that women need role models to believe they can make a change in the society the same way their male counterparts have done. In the film, it is apparent that the media users have defamed the image of women and their roles in the society. In the film, there is an evidence of campaigns to fight for the recognition of women in the society. Some of the companyings that are evident in the movie includes the call to change policies that do not favor the impact of women in the society, a campaign that educates the people and businesses to act responsibly to the people of different gender. The movie concludes by asking the viewers to be the ambassadors of change and defend female gender against misrepresentation.

Judging the story

The author of the film is creative because she presented the film in the form of numerous interviews. The storyline of the film gives a comprehensive perspective regarding the theme of the story. The movie comprises of teenage girls, politicians, journalists, and activists. All the players in the delivery of theme in the film depict good positioning of actors in the play. There are numerous video clips, images, and films within the movie showing evidence of how media depicts the individuals. The author worked hard to show how women are depicted as objects for sex, and beauty (Brinkman 9). The author of the film creates an impression that women are suppressed, disempowered, and dehumanized. The use of clips and images from the previous media representation of women makes the entire film compact. The author is successful in sending the message to the public to empower women, give them an opportunity to realize their worth and to exercise their democracy in the society.

The questions used to interview the teenagers in the film are thoughtful and has helped to unfold the true picture of women in the society. The actors are equipped with the topic and the aims of the author of the film. In the interviews, it is apparent that women are aware that the society is unjust. In the film, there are many instances where women are represented in the media as objects of beauty, and sexual toys (Brinkman 6). Most of the clips depict women as dressed in scanty clothes, fighting, and playing like young kids in the room. Representing women acting like kids shows how they are immature but demean the value of women in the society. The film is in the form of narrative. The editors set a voice in the background to explain the order of the events in the film. The viewer is able to hear the voices of the journalist, politicians, and activist during the interview regarding women and the media.


The lighting in the film has helped to define night hours and the daytime. The use of lighting in the film is appropriate. The choice for the music used in the film triggers the feeling of oppression that women undergo. The music in the background is slow and brings about a feeling of sympathy on the view. The author of the film is careful because she ensured that the clips, videos, and images contribute to the theme of oppression of women (Brinkman 7). For example, clips depicting women fighting demeans the images of women in the society. People view women as weak genders and the people that need guidances in every action.

Personal criticism on the movie

The film is educative and it brings clear the theme. Viewers can understand the theme of the movie because of the manner in which the author set actors. The actors in the film are female teenagers that clearly express how media send a message to the public about women. The plot of the film is chronological because the writer used images and various clips to show how media represent the women. I like the sounds in the background of the female. The music used in the film is relevant because it creates a sense of miss representations of women in the media. It is evident in the film that media depicts the women as hot-tempered, objects of entertainment, and objects of beauty. The various interviews in the film make the movie real. The author has used an example, demonstrated how the media depicts the girl child in the society (Brinkman 9).

The film meets the expectations of the viewer. For example, the title of the film is miss representation which depict the theme in the film. In my view, the title is brief and attracts the attention of the first time view. The first time viewer would wish to connect the title of the film and the activities unfolding from the movie. For this reason, the title of the film and the activities that take place in the film meets the expectations of the viewer. In the end, the viewer can conclude that the theme of the film is fully addressed in different parts of the film.
