Corporate logos are one of the most noticeable parts of any organization. Therefore, they remain with their organizations for centuries becoming a symbol of the company. Most companies use logos with double meanings to encourage consumers to look closer at them thus promote brand recognition. The graphic designers of most logos have to consider several aspects as they determine the success of the business. A well-done logo requires knowledge and skills of the company. The Mercedes-Benz logo is one of the most prominent logos in the world. It serves the identity of the company leading to the global success of the company. This paper is an analysis of the Mercedes logo and the designers biography.
The logo is prominent with a decent and sober appearance hence enabling it to reign in the global market. The logo takes the shape of a three-pointed star that commands dominance over the sea, land, and air. The star is enclosed in a globe depicting its suitability globally and the ability to be used on the land, air, and sea is demonstrated by the star elucidating dominance over the waters, the land, and the air. The metallic gray color demonstrates the healthy corporate nature of the company and is seen in many of the Mercedes motors. A tint blue shade is added to the logo so as to enhance the gray color. The typeface of the signature of the company in the logo is not complicated. The simple nature of the signature shows the strong image of the company. It also demonstrates the innovative capacity of the company through the representation of status, authority, and authenticity.
The logo came to being after the merging of two automobile rival firms, Benz & Cie and Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (DMG). It was engineered by Gottlieb Wilhelm Daimler who was an engineer, industrial designer, and industrialist. He was born in 1834 in Germany and became among the pioneers in the development of internal combustion engines and the development of automobiles. He invented the engine fueled by liquid petroleum which was a revolution in automobile technology in terms of speed. Daimlers business partner was Wilhelm May Bach. They worked towards the development of high-speed engines for use in various locomotives. Since his early years, Daimler had an interest in engineering. He trained as a gunsmith after his secondary education. However, he left gun smiting for mechanical engineering at the age of 18 years. In the course of his study at college, Daimler took work at R & S Factory College where he refined his skills. He later joined Stuttgart Polytechnic Institute where he gained a good understanding of steam locomotives and learned how to make engines.
Upon his resignation from R & S, Daimler worked with the top engineering firms in England and gained intensive knowledge on machine tools. He later got employed in Bruderhaus Reutlingen where he met with Maybach. In the year 1872, he was employed at a company belonging to Nikolaus A. Otto as a technical director. Daimler and Otto jointly designed the four stroke engine where they parted due to serious personal differences. Daimler and Maybach devised their first engine which eliminated the previous ignition in 1885. They were also able to make a carburetor that could use gasoline as a source of fuel. The work of Daimler and Maybach culminated in the design of a four-wheel automobile. Daimler collaborated with other people to found the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft in the year 1890 where they constructed the first Mercedes car in 1899.
Gottlieb Daimler developed a heart condition just after they had sold their first car in his final collaboration in 1892. The designer died in 1900 after the battle with the heart problem but his legacy remains to date. The logo has become an integral part of the companys marketing strategy creating overwhelming brand recognition of the company all over the world. The logo has become a symbol of luxury and excellence in the contemporary society which has increased the sales of the company. Additionally, the logo is also a promise to provide cleaner automobile technologies through the embedded culture of innovation. This has set the mark for other automobile producers to develop environmentally friendly cars to prevent the adverse effects of global warming impacting positively on the environment.
In conclusion, the Mercedes logo is a prominent company symbol in the world. It was designed by Gottlieb Daimler. Daimler studied mechanical engineering and collaborated with Wilhelm Maybach with whom he started a lifelong partnership journey of making vehicle engines. The two collaborated with Nikolaus August Otto and Eugen Langen in the creation of automotive engines. Daimler left the collaboration as a result of a disagreement and worked to improve the engine. He was granted a patent and the engine became functional after which he extended the work to ships. Later he worked with Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft where they developed their work and made the first Mercedes. The merger formed a new identity symbolized by the Mercedes logo leading to the success of the company globally.
