It is essential to put a focus on this topic mainly because training makes a very critical part of our daily lives. Over the years, there have been arguments concerning traditional learning as being the most appropriate mode of maintaining a process of knowledge. Looking at other learning models, they are often considered inferior or less useful. It is therefore essential to keenly look at both traditional and learned forms education with the aim of establishing their respective effectiveness. Most students have continuously expressed relative satisfaction to computer-mediated learning frameworks as compared to conventional models. Acquired knowledge is in many aspects more relevant compared to traditional modes of teaching just because it serves quite a more significant population. Acquired learning includes quite a wide array of advantages which lack in conventional styles of instruction. Learned training ensures ample time for digesting the info, and thus appropriate responses are availed. Consequently, it promotes enhanced communication among the students both in regards to urgency and quality. Through acquired learning, the students can hold open discussions, whereby each learner gets more of an equal stand than in face-to-face conversations in traditional modes of education. Similarly, acquired education systems give room whereby all the learners will have prompt access to information, and thus responses can be made with limited restrictions. The utilization of learned education instead of traditional culture, whether it is from accredited or unaccredited sources, at present is a highly controversial and volatile.
Teachers who are in favor of this type of educational credit assignments, they feel that it should be accepted at all levels. Traditional modes of education are an integral part of many communities across the world. It is stored in different forms and transmitted through various methods. These methods include music, language, dance, oral traditions, stories, myths, and religions. Traditional ways of education are passed from one generation to another and are commonly done by word of mouth. It is quite clear that most countries are transforming all aspects of life. These changes involve their knowledge and education systems. Traditional modes of education are often used as the information baseline for the specific communities that facilitates decision making as well as useful communication. An essential aspect of a conventional education system is the acquisition the of knowledge where every learner is taught different things like the identification of various gods, planting seasons, harvest methods, just to mention a few. It is important to note that traditional models of education are propagated by the respective communities or group of learners. Similarly, conventional education systems aim at ensuring that every folk develops a set of skills. Consequently, it provides that learners of the same age are brought together to help in sharing responsibilities, work in unison, and also be introduced to activities that will not be cumbersome. Therefore, the chief goal of traditional systems of education is to produce complete individuals, a learner who is lifelong cultured, integrated, respectful, sensitive, and responsible. Conventional models of education help to encourage the acquisition and sharing of knowledge in very diverse forms. As mentioned earlier, traditional modes of instruction are passed from generation to generation by word of mouth, and thus it is prone to changes in the course of passage. It is therefore essential to compare learned education systems to traditional ones with the aim of establishing which one is more effective and efficient.
At present, there is only a few of on-line accredit colleges that will accept learned and or acquired educational experience for college credit and very few and infrequent ones that will allow items from unaccredited sources. This research paper, therefore, aims at looking at the advantages of acquired education, and thus encourage institutions of education to adopt this form of learning.
Different Types and Styles of Education
As mentioned earlier in the introduction, there are various forms of knowledge, namely; learned and traditional forms. Learned experience refers to any interaction, course, program, or other experience in which Learning takes place, whether it occurs in a conventional academic setting (schools or classrooms) or non-traditional settings (outside-of-school locations and outdoor environments), or whether it includes traditional educational interactions or Nontraditional interactions (students learning through games and interactive software,(Learning Experience, 29 August 2013). In their book, Turning Learning Right Side Up: Putting Education Back on Track, authors. Russell L. Ackoff and Daniel Greenberg point out that todays education system is dangerous. These authors further suggest that it focuses on teaching rather than learning.
Acquired Educational Learning
Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing. That is worth knowing can be taught, (Oscar Wild, 2010).In the Traditional-Progressive style of education, a student is required to memorize a textbook and then take a series of tests showing and or proving their knowledge of the subject. To further test their knowledge of the subject, they are to write papers sometimes with very few questions that should be answered appropriately. Instructors and schools fail to take into consideration that this type and style of instructing is not correct for every student. Some catch on extremely fast while it takes others longer than what is expected of them. Some of these students suffer from handicaps or disabilities that at times hinder them from learning as fast as the other students, and the instructors fail to explain this. It should be noted that there are different areas and places that an individual can utilize to acquire knowledge and high-quality education. These can include but are not limited to work experience, volunteer work, correspondence courses (traditional and non-traditional), military service, non-accredited coursework, and even life itself. Each one of these fields helps the individual to a vast array of knowledge, skills, and abilities that cannot be acquired in a traditional setting. They should be, and again, it is up to the individual college and or university to decide whether or not to utilize this type of learning and knowledge.
The application of acquired learning is mainly up to the individual, i.e., they can use and apply this knowledge to a varied and in different situations. They can utilize this in just about any situation that arises, such as how to interact socially with other individuals, how to perform individual skill sets in a typical work and or school setting (Arends, 2014). These knowledge skills and abilities never leave the individual, and they help them to become a much stronger person even in future. Primarily about the only places that accept this learning at present are places of employment, military recruitment offices, and homes where an individual seeks to do volunteer work.
It is essential for learning institutions to evaluate both traditional and acquired forms of learning to understand the pros and cons of each. As mentioned earlier, general education happens in a conventional classroom where there is limited accommodation of other learning styles. Acquired learning on the other hand, students tend to have a wide array of teaching experiences either online, at school, and in the community. The diverse patterns in acquired learning give ample room to accommodate the interests of students and their multifaceted learning styles. Consequently, in traditional forms of knowledge, the learners are expected to master grade level college as well as career-ready standards. It is different from acquired education whereby the students are expected to learn competencies aligned to school as well as career-ready standards. When it comes to the learning pace, students in a traditional setting advance at the tutors speed regardless of the mastery needed. On the other hand, students in acquired learning settings tend to develop customized support that ensures they stay on the right pace to graduate ready for their careers. Looking at the instructional system of traditional learning, each class has a particular individual who develops and delivers instructions. It is however not the case in acquired knowledge as the teachers and works closely with the students and the community to come up with a strong learning program. Another vital difference to note is the grading system. In traditional learning, the grades are usually norm-referenced and are typically based on weighted quarters and a final exam. In academic education, however, the end grades reflect the degree of mastery of competencies. Such difference gives us a clear insight of the pros and cons of the two types of education.
By all means, individuals should take up acquired learning, because this type of learning experience places them into an area of traditional education that they already know the coursework and become uninterested exceptionally quickly. Some individuals performing this kind of learning or acquired skill set is much more comfortable for them and is longer lasting than the traditional style of education or knowledge. The reason that it is long lasting is that it comes in the form of a type of on-the-job training that cannot be learned in the traditional classroom. So that when this kind of knowledge and skill is determined, and the individual retains it much longer and can apply it immediately. There are several different ways that acquired-learned education can be implemented. However, utilizing them as college credit is not one of them at present, nor does it appear. Learned experiences and knowledge, though not all, can be transcribed into college credit. At present, there are two very beneficial reasons that this type of learning can be applied to the individual. The first is when the individual is seeking employment; these skills are quite useful in this regard as they can be called upon in job interviews to show interest and experience. Second is when the individual decides to attend college, he or she can call upon these when being interviewed for individual degree programs or in the classroom when writing papers or class participation.
Traditional colleges and universities should accept learned and or acquired educational. Even from unaccredited sources or institutions, this would help to expand on an individuals vast learned knowledge and skills, and would not only benefit the college but the communities as well. Instead of utilizing a barrage of battery tests, it should be performed by a review board using open-minded instructors and advisors from the individuals desired degree program. Though there is tremendously rare and irregular empirical data or references to fully support this or even the concept of substituting this type of educational experience for college credits, there should be more. If a learning institution wishes to pursue these and to evaluate this kind of learning and transform them into credits; it should be accomplished applying an entirely different style of format then that is currently in use with traditional courses.
