Q1. LO 10: Select from a range (minimum 3) of assessment tools, techniques, and approaches for a training session to determine whether or not: Training needs were met and objectives fulfilled

The most efficient way to realizing success in training is by the use of several techniques, methodologies, and tools. An efficient method or technique often has the advantage of equipping learners with the necessary skills required as per the objectives of the training. According to my observation and experience, I did find the instructor led training much more productive and fruitful. Besides having a direct face-to-face interaction, the technique offers an efficient methodology in giving the necessary materials to a large group of learners with the advantage of active participation by all the learners. The method enabled me to get all the facts right together with other learners at the same time, giving me an opportunity to open up a discussion with other students late on after the training. Through the training that involved case studies, group (5 learners), quizzes, and question and answers session, the training presented me with an opportunity to create a personal plan that enabled me to understand the concepts put across. The demonstrations, role-playing, and question cards techniques allowed me to understand and grasp the relevant facts for later research and group discussion.

Besides the instructor led training, the hands on experience came as an important technique in the training exercise. In a role-play task, the method enabled me to perform and try out several tasks by the knowledge gained from the training. In the hands on training, I exploited the strategies used such as demonstrations, cross training, and coaching among the other learners. Not only were the objectives and needs met, I felt that I gained much during and in the entire training period. The training session that focused on cultural aspects of American indigenous groups helped me understand the educational and cultural way of life of the Aborigines in addition to the roots and traditional aspects of the American people in the early and mid-1770s. The training session lasted approximately seven days, with 6 hours of training each day.

All through the training, the instructor combined several techniques such as humor, fun, and self-esteem concepts to build on our interests. The strategy proved worthwhile especially in my case that enhanced my interest in the entire training session. The instructor repeated questions as the training session progresses a feat that involved all the learners through the training. I got fascinated by the in depth analysis of the issues in addition to the compounded aspect of the use of tests all through the training. The instructor repeated the questions and critical points, a facet that build on my interest and passion of the training session. Besides viewing the training as a teacher-learner forum, the instructor undertook the entire course as a learner too, putting himself into the position of the learner. The strategy enabled me to understand the concepts of the training and kept on track with all aspects of the session. I was deeply involved in the session, and as the instructor used the repetition technique, I felt deeply involved in the training session.

The most successful area of the training and during the entire session included the group discussions, question, answer sessions, and the role-playing. Role-playing involved the learners taking on the role of the trainer and going through some of the training areas they best understood. For example, I did assume the introduction part of the first session in which I took up the role of the trainer and introduced the subject topic. The presentation of the subject topic included providing an overview of the entire program, training session, and some of the critical areas of the practice that later informed the primary issue. While and during the introduction part, I did analyze the importance of the training and its significance concerning other bodies of knowledge to enable the learners to relate the body of knowledge to other significant disciplines and areas of interest. The session proved successful since the majority of the students who applied some of the models such as Kirkpatrick's evaluation model to prepare and deliver their short introductory presentation. The model involved and entailed reaction, learning, behavior, and results. By use of appropriate measuring tools and analysis, the results showed a successful skill acquisition on the part of the learners. During the entire training session, the learners proved competent in handling first time knowledge with a little challenge on relating with other bodies or disciplines in similar/dissimilar fields of interest.

On the other hand, going by the learners feedback, the majority felt at ease in sharing their acquired knowledge with others, an aspect that proved worthwhile during the methodology training evaluation. The assessment involved collecting feedback from the learner's by the use of the Kirkpatrick's model. For example, the learners evaluated the knowledge acquired regarding the return cost of training or return on investment. Additionally, their behaviors, understanding, and reaction came under scrutiny in which they completed the smiley sheet to determine their responses. The results showed remarkable positivity regarding enthusiasm, competence, and attitude. Additionally, the resulting results from the supervisor's questionnaire gave a positive indicator towards the learner's involvement in the training session.

However, improvements need to be enacted primarily in the use of available tools and demonstrations. The majority of the learners were unable to handle the tools properly due to fear and lack of technical expertise in working with new tools and equipment. Additionally, the trainer's need to exercise caution while introducing the new tools by involving the learner's in understanding the concepts, working, and handling tools especially in a class environment. While a good number of trainees found it easy to operate with the tools, some faced challenges especially during the practical application and use of the tools outside the training session. On the other hand, I did take note of the fact that some of the trainees felt left out in coming to terms with some techniques and methodologies applied during the training especially strategies such as the use of course training and demonstrations. While a good percentage got involved passionately, some merely observed from a distance with little interest and the inability to take a central role in the training. At the same time, resource materials need to be increased to give the learners easy access to resource manuals and reference materials. By the use of Kaufmans five levels of evaluation, it became apparent that a small percentage of the trainees did not achieve the desired results of the training goals due to in part to the above-aforementioned drawbacks.

A training intervention entails the assessments of learners needs, materials, the development of training manuals and presentations, the implementation of the skills, and evaluation of the training exercise. While learners are allowed to take a central role in the entire training exercise, the success of the training many a time depending on the program involved, the implementation strategy, and problem under analysis. A designed program that makes up the training materials form a critical component of a training intervention that is aimed at meeting the needs of the entire training exercise. Many a time, if implemented according to plan, exercise intervention serves an important function in the achievement of learner needs while at the same time enabling the trainers to impact on the skills and abilities of learners positively. Learners, on the other hand, have the chance to take part in a training program that meets their expectations.

Learners often recognize the need to expand and make an intervention program an all whole exercise or program that allows them to take an active role. If actively involved, learners and participants in intervention training have the ability to impact on the learners while at the same time; change their overall perception as regards to knowledge acquisition. If well designed, participants often take a central role in helping achieve the overall objective of the intervention training. Participants find it positively involving by having a part to play in intervention training in which they are given responsibilities while at the same time building up their skills. Participants thus have the opportunity to role-play as a trainer and a learner, a feat that improves their concentration and involvement in the entire exercise. According to the majority of the learners, training intervention enables them to get involved in a training exercise without the fear of failing to achieve any set objective. Besides, learners identify with the trainer through the identification of with their teaching methodology and techniques. According to the learners, such a feat is critical in helping them achieve their set targets while at the same time sharpen their skills in the training offered.

During intervention training, the participation of learners play a critical role in enabling trainers to achieve their goals and at the same time involve them directly in coming to terms with the methods and techniques used. Additionally, the participation of learners is critical to the success of such a program as it prepares learners to understand the strategies used in the entire program exercise without laboring to help the learners understand the procedures. The involvement of participants is thus important and critical for the success of any form of intervention training in all aspects of training. At the same time, acknowledging the participation of learners enable trainers to connect and lay down the best training methodologies without laboring to fit in the best working format of training. At the same time motivating and acknowledging the participation of learners comes with the advantage of making the entire exercise flexible in achieving the set targets and the overall objective of the program or training exercise.
