The guiding and working topic for this research paper is feminism in the 21st century. I am of the opinion that in the 21st century, the issue of feminism has lost its ideal meaning. However, I will need to conduct research that will either support or refute my claims.
Introduction
I believe that by carrying out this research, women, and men will have knowledge of the actual meaning of feminism and also help them to fight for equal rights in a manner that does not override the needs of either gender. As well known, feminism is the conviction that both men and women should be given equal opportunities and rights. While women seem to be the most affected group, it is only right that they demand the equality in acceptable methods. In todays society, I have noted that the aggression that feminists possess has blinded them from attaining the true meaning of feminism. Furthermore, the misinterpretation that I hear from most people of feminism has led to the postulation that it is all about women. As such, I developed an interest to evaluate whether feminism is still being followed because of its real course.
Research Question and Methods
General Research Question
Is feminism losing its true meaning in the 21st century?
Research Methods
To ensure that I arrive at reliable results, I will utilize various secondary research data and compare the results provided. By so doing, I will be able to conduct a comparison and fill the existing research gap on whether feminism has lost its real meaning or not. The secondary data will be retrieved from scholarly journal articles and relevant books that present feminism in the 21st century and the past centuries.
Sources
Two sources have been selected for this case and are briefly discussed below:
Mousli, B., & Roustang-Stoller, E. A. (Eds.). (2009). Women, feminism, andfemininity in the 21st century: American and French perspectives. PalgraveMacmillan.
One important aspect is that this book offers a presentation of feminism in two different regions of the world namely, France and the United States. Therefore, this book gives me the ability to compare feminism between these areas and see whether there are any similarities. Furthermore, this book is authored by two women who relocated from France to the U.S and therefore, there is a high probability that they will offer valid information about feminism in their home nation.
Bammer, A. (2014). Partial Visions: Feminism and utopianism in the 1970s (Ralahine classics edition ed., Ralahine utopian studies, volume 16). Oxford: Peter Lang.
This book also provides crucial information about the state of feminism in the 1970s. Therefore, it will provide necessary information about how feminism was perceived, implemented and reinforced in this era of the late 20th century. The information drawn from this resource will be useful in drawing some of the similarities and differences between feminism in the 21st and 20th century. Such comparisons will form the basis for evaluating whether or not feminism has changed and lost meaning in the current times.
Planning
This research paper is important in ensuring that I attain a good grade by the end of the semester. Therefore, I will have to make extra time to ensure that I complete it on time. I will dedicate four hours in a day to make sure that the research is conducted sufficiently. These four hours will be spent in the library researching and writing my research. The division will be two hours in the morning before my lectures begin and two hours in the evening. By so doing I will have ensured that I do not interfere with any other lessons.
